The build up

When we decided to get married one of the things we were sure on from the start was that we would love to be able to use our garden for part of our wedding. We’d moved to Kent in order to have a garden and had spent the previous three and a half years turning a large grassy field into something with flowers and vegetables that we could use but also that all of our friends could enjoy. So we started searching for companies to supply a marquee for the reception and struck it lucky very early on by finding Super Event Catering & Marquee Hire Ltd. Not only would they supply the marquee we wanted but they did absolutely everything else too. Anything we needed could be supplied, but similarly were so flexible in the range of choices that we were able to do some bits ourselves.

We’d already made some enquiries by the time the tasting date came around. This sealed the deal for us. The food and drink provided was brilliant, everything was so tasty it was just a matter of narrowing down choices. It was also a great opportunity to meet some of the staff and ask questions about the run of the big day. Our minds were put at ease instantly and we booked for the year after. In the run up we were prompted to provide choices and were given a huge range of options. And what was so lovely, was that none of this felt overwhelming. We chose to have a BBQ and had selected the food options, including some really great choices for vegetarians. We’d also decided to supply our own drinks, and to have the wedding ‘cake’, a Croquembouche, as our dessert. Opting for canapes when the guests arrived. All of which was no problem at all and was added to our booking. It was so refreshing to be able to select the things we wanted to suit our day and for there to be no argument about not choosing specific choices.

We selected the posh loos, which were great. We supplied the power, as we already had an external power supply. Internally to the marquee we had the star light roof lining above the dance floor, which was well worth it and a great addition to the evening. We also had a stage, ivory linings, uplighters and standard chairs and tables.

We had a couple of site visits to ensure that everything would fit and the location of power and water would work. We also had the final meeting to run through any last minute changes and the final arrangements. It felt as if everything was covered without us having to ask anything at all. The “any questions” section of our meeting was very short! All was fine and we were good to go, with excitement building rapidly.

When the team arrived during the week to set up the marquee, they were nothing but professional. The entrance to get the trailer in was tight to say the least and they handled it with no problem (and no damages) at all. They were really efficient at putting everything up and getting the separate units in. Everything was up without a glitch and we were ready to go.

The big day

On the day, there were some minor changes. A couple of guests couldn’t make it and there was a little rain too which meant that people started wandering inside before they should have done. However none of this was an issue and all taken in the stride of our magnificent Event Manager on the day, Wendy. The afternoon, from canapes and drinks outside to the wonderful BBQ was relaxed and easy going, just how we wanted it. The waiting staff were all really lovely and friendly yet completely professional. The food was magnificent, the range of options and the amount of food was just brilliant. We had so many comments from guests on how good it was and how nice it was to have a really good selection to choose from.

I think the timings changed a little for the cutting of the cake and the speeches but it all flowed beautifully well. The speeches gave a few good laughs to the 100 guests we had and there may have even been a couple of tears too. The sun went down and the dancing started and continued into the night. Everyone had a great time and we look back on the whole day with only the happiest of memories.

Food choices

Our menus for the day were:

Canapes: aromatic hoisin duck on sesame toast, lobster pots, mini fish and chip cones, mini toasted quesadillas, baby mozzarella and tomato skewers
BBQ: Hickory smoked BBQ chicken, BBQ southdown lamb steak, swordfish steaks, marinated halloumi kebabs and falafel and spinach burger
Evening: sausage and bacon rolls

Marquee interior

We chose to have ivory swags, uplighters, star light roof lining, carpet, with 10 round tables, standard chairs that we then decorated.

Decorations

We loved the white and silver balloons.  The table decorations were white and green flowers and we designed the own ‘accreditation’ place names and table names.

Drinks

We supplied our own, apple and orange juice and sparkling wine and cider for welcome drinks. Then there was red and white wine with dinner, lemonade and orange juice for soft drinks. Champagne and sparkling elderflower was for the toasts and there was a paid bar in the evening.

We would highly recommend Super Event Catering & Marquee Hire Ltd to anyone, they were excellent from start to finish and beyond. The planning, the day, the food and the personal touches were all exceptional, thank you so much for helping us make our wedding day unforgettable
